Custom Home Insulation, Drywall and Paint, Baysville

A custom home in Baysville, Muskoka, set among tall pines with walls of glass facing the lake. Wahlz carried the interior surfaces from the wall cavity out: insulation, drywall hanging, taping and drywall finishing, and paint. The photos follow the work from taped board under wood ceilings to painted rooms under floating, lit ceilings.

The challenge

This house mixes materials and light. Wood plank ceilings run over drywall walls, so every top edge meets a finished surface that cannot be touched up. Floating drywall ceilings step down in layers with light washing along their edges, and floor-to-ceiling windows bring in strong daylight. Under that kind of light, the drywall and paint are on display in every room.

What we managed

• Insulated the home ahead of drywall.

• Hung drywall on the walls and on the layered, floating ceilings, including their lit edges.

• Taped and finished the board where drywall walls meet the wood ceilings, around the stair openings and along the tall hallway.

• Painted the finished drywall, so one crew carried the surface from insulation through to paint.
