Taped drywall on a vaulted, coffered ceiling above tall windows in a custom home in the GTA

Custom Home Drywall and Finishing, North York

A custom home in North York, Toronto, built around vaulted and cathedral ceilings, coffered ceilings and walls of glass. Wahlz carried the drywall scope: drywall hanging, plus taping and drywall finishing. The photos follow the work from hung and taped board to a finished two-storey window wall.

Scope

  • Drywall hanging

  • Taping and drywall finishing

The challenge

Very little in this house is a flat ceiling over a square room. Vaulted and cathedral ceilings meet at long ridges and valleys. Coffered ceilings step down in recessed panels, and a round tray ceiling crowns the main living space. Windows are returned in drywall with no casing, vents sit flush in the board, and two-storey window walls put every joint in raking daylight. In a home like this, each corner, curve and return is on display.

What we managed

  • Hung drywall across the vaulted, cathedral, coffered and round tray ceilings and the tall walls below them.

  • Returned drywall into the window openings, including the two-storey window walls, for a clean edge with no casing.

  • Finished the vents flush with the drywall surface.

  • Taped and finished the board through every inside corner, ridge, curve and return.
